I was 13 so o was just becoming a “girl” and I just couldn’t take having to have long hair and that anymore, I went up to her and said “Mom, I’m trans” she then told me dad and he didn’t accept me at first but we just forced him to get used to it.
Christ this is super late but that really sucks for your friend. The best I can recommend is for him to continue to find supportive friends. There are many helpful guides for closeted mtf which I think could also apply to his situation that you should look up. I personally also exist in a household with parents that don't really get trans people and I find partaking in positive web based communities is helpful and during the school year to speak with the provided counselors.
