I have not yet heard of Dermont Kennedy until now, but I will have to give them a listen and get back to you😌✨ and what I am about to explain will more than likely make little to no sense, but here we go. I think of meaning and feeling (of) and how music is experienced in a very different way that does not include genre. while genre has its place in music libraries, I feel like it is much more interesting to describe music in less vague, but much more interesting and personal ways. Instead of being “country”, a song may be “one that reminds you of home and the love of family” or instead of being “an alternative rock band” they “have this sound unlike any other, that holds secrets and this strange nostalgia somehow...”. I feel like what gives us meaning and feeling and what determines how we listen to music is not quite genre, simply because when you take that away there is still so much more. I feel as if it is a sort of mental capacity for music what we all possess different amounts of. the stronger the open mind and vocabulary one has access to, the more it has meaning and feeling that can be shared. but where music’s beautiful qualities is derived from is just as hard as the question where beauty derived from at all. How we listen to music seems to be determined by the artist. similar to any other, the artist may want you to experience their work in a certain specific setting or state of mind. that plays a great role as well. but those are only a few layers to meaning and feeling in songs let alone, I feel. (my sincerest apologies for the preceding mess that was quickly developed and already so complicated as the thought was😅🤷🏼‍♀️) anyhow, gingerbread cookies? I give them a 11 out of 10, most definitely!😅 (for aesthetics, festivity, and superb taste😊✨🌙)
