I think I'm an agnostic atheist tbh. And I blurred out the word d*mb bc it's ableist and just a rude word to use in general outside of the context of its actual meaning //nate
hey sorry to share my opinion but dumb is not an ableist word.. its always been used to say something or something is dumb but not literally. it means unintelligent, not that someone is mentally messed up. i think thats a bit extreme for people to get offended by such a simple word that is used by many people and usually don't hurt unless you are personally attacking them.
you could get into the actual definition of the word dumb which is a lot more than dense, but it has many meanings and the most popular is being unintelligent. saying SOMETHING like an object or subject is dumb, thats completely acceptable. saying someone is dumb might be hurtful but you may have looked into it too much
why are you the best for blurring the word dumb be my best friend literally
It actually has not "always" been used in the context of something being "stupid" and/or in a non-ableist way. The word originated as a way to describe people who showed signs of deafness, or muteness. I personally do not use it, but I don't think that's any reason for someone else to tell me why I am wrong, as I would never do that. And to say that I may have looked into it too much is just simply not a fair statement, as I am allowed to not say a word if I find it offensive. Thanks
