I’m usually not about ships that aren’t obviously canon but destiel is something that needs to happen ffs ; then again I know that some bonds with friends can be even stronger than a romance (like in Merlin 🧙♂️Imo merthur being romantically real would diminish the extremity of Merlin’s sacrifices because of how powerfully he feels the need to protect Arthur through only friendship is crazy special, idk I mean it’d be cute but a part of me feels like the bromance is more important than real romance for that story)
but in terms of destiel f that idea because they are gaY DÀMMÎT
I say that with merthur bc of my own opinions and of Bradley James’ thoughts in an interview saying how Merlin and Arthur’s bond is stronger than Arthur’s bond with Guinevere. it’s like with soldiers who fight together; they end up being closer to that person than their spouse, and that connection isn’t often highlighted in tv or movies. it’s a bond much more special than romance and that’s why I don’t ship actual merthur because it would diminish that impossible and rare bond.
