This is such an important topic!! As a white woman I can't say much on this side of things, though I fully agree that using ethnic features as a trend should not be done. It's weird how people would use one feature and call it pretty, but still mock people for their whole appearance.
From my experience I can really only talk about weight, (trigger warning weight, ed's) as I've always been skinny. I've had people tell me they wanted to be skinny like me, but on the other side I've also had people ask me if I was eating enough and if I didn't have an eating disorder. Always being the skinny kid has kind of thrown me off now that I'm getting older and getting more roundings in all the normal places.
It's pretty messed up that we're all so stuck on trends, bc that means that we'll never be perfect. Whenever you reach one beauty standard, another is already in place. We as a society should really focus on everyone's differences and how beautiful it is that no one looks exactly the same. Everyone is so beautiful in their own way ❤
so true! your body is not a trend whatsoever. but i think every one, no matter how they look—their features is what makes them beautiful. your flaws are what make you unique and special. it may come as a trend, but it will go but that does not matter. you’re you and the only thing that can define you is you. it’s so sad how social media has changed our views and created beauty standards, because, everyone is beauty!
same with anouk^^ but it’s also (as an italian) the body hair 🤌 it’s natural and a sign of heritage. yet people frown on it as if women shouldn’t have it. then why does it exist? because it’s natural and that’s our beauty. so, your eyes are natural and you should be proud of your body because there are people from time to time that want to look like that.
i agree that your ethnicity shouldn’t be a trend. it should not be discriminated against because of how it looks. it’s beautiful no matter what they say, and it’s social media’s fault that people see it like that..
*as in like, see it as not fit into beauty standards
thank you for sharing and for more asian features representation 💗💞
I so agree, people judge us differently, just because the way they are. ^just as they said💕stay strong
Kat, thank you for sharing. Now that I think about it, I also grew up with predominantly white people in my elementary school and also experienced the mocking eyes. But being from a diverse city, I also witnessed the moving of more people of color into the suburbs and grew up in an Asian church. I guess it was there where I noticed ‘I’m different’. I’ve been privileged to have not experienced extreme racism in any way but I have to say during my years at uni, I kind of felt out of place because it was mostly white. It was a foreign feeling. The best example I can think of is a professor trying to pronounce my last name. It’s super common at home but in this much smaller city, it was like it was unheard of. Oh for you to hear those mispronunciations and snarks and giggles. Anyway, I guess not everywhere is as diverse as one can hope. The different places you go perceive you in different ways. Humans like to judge.
