we went up this big steep

it slammed down on the ground and then went up again
my mother fell of and the lawn mower started rolling back
I slammed on the brakes and shut the mower off
my mother has big bruises from falling off and I’m just hurt emotionally

I’ll tell you about the first time this has happened
so I was at my moms shop doing nothing and Jen came in she had to pick up her step kids. My mind was literally having the conversation before it happened and literally 5 minutes after my mind was thinking it Jen said “do you want to come with me to get the kids” and I was literally freaking out bc she asked me that and I was like “y..yeah” so I thought I was going crazy and it hadn’t happened again until last night...
so my mother and I went to my new middle school 4 a tour and there was this boy who is a grade younger than me that lives on my rode and my mom was talking to them about the bus route and my mind was thinking “man I am going to be seeing this kid a lot in my future” and the kids mother asked if she could drop him off at my bus stop and I literally almost fainted...😅

The school bell started to ring. It sounded almost like a church bell ringing in a timely manner. It was finally the last day of 12th grade. Lucy Smith walked quickly out of the classroom, she had to search for her best friend Cassie Sullivan. “Goodbye Lucy, I hope you make the right decisions in your life.” her teacher said, smiling down at her as she squeezed Lucy into a tight hug. “Thank you, I will always try my best to make the right decisions.” “I'm glad to hear it.” Squeezing Lucy into another hug she walked away. “There you are.” Lucy cried as she ran over to where Cassie stood. “We better get to work before our boss fires us.” “Yeah I guess you're right.” Cassie said as she got a drink from the water fountain. Cassie led Lucy down the long hallways filled with happy high schoolers who are finally able to go home for the summer. They walked out the exit and started walking down the sidewalk towards the restaurant where they waitressed at. Lucy was busy thinking about the guy she met at the restaurant the other day when she was waiting on his table. The young man had asked for her number and they have been dating ever since. He had said his name was Hayden and that they lived in the same neighborhood. Even though she never saw him before she figured she must not have been paying attention. She walked over to the sink and started washing her hands. I wonder when I will see Hayden again? Hopefully I will see him soon. The delicious smell of shrimp wafted through the air as the door opened. “Is everything alright in here?” a familiar voice asked. Lucy turned around and saw her friend Michelle. “Yeah everything is alright, just thinking is all.” She realized the water was still running so she quickly turned it off. “I want to show you something.” Michelle said as she started walking out the door leaving Lucy no choice but to follow her. I wonder what Michelle wants to show me. Perhaps she saw me talking to Hayden and wanted to show me that he arrived. I probably should've told them I had a boyfriend. Suddenly she ran head first into Michelle’s back. “Are you okay?” Michelle asked, looking concerned. “Yeah I'll be fine.” She looked to where Michelle was pointing and saw Cassie talking to the cook’s son Josh. “If i'm not mistaken it looks as if they are flirting with each other.” Michelle said laughing “Would you like the front section or the back section af tables today?” “I guess I'll take the front section if you don't mind.” “Ok i'll take the back.” ~Cassie~ “Would you like to come out to dinner with Cassie and I this evening?” Cassie could feel her hands getting sweaty as she waited for an answer. I really hope he says yes, because I would love the chance to get to know him better. “That would be wonderful. Are you going to pick me up? If so, what time?” Josh asked, looking at her questioningly. “How about six o’clock. That gives us all some time to get ready after our shift is over.” “Sounds great.” Josh said as he pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket and began writing his address on it. When he handed Cassie the piece of paper their hands lightly brushed against each other. Cassie could feel the heat rising to her face as she looked away. “I’ll look forward to seeing you tonight. He said as he washed his hands at the sink. “But for now I need to get back to work before my dad gives me a whipping.” “Okay see you tonight.” I hope Lucy doesn't mind that I invited Josh to our dinner. I should go tell her now. Cassie walked over to where Lucy was standing waiting for some customers' food. “Lucy I hope you don't mind but I asked Josh if he would like to come to supper with us.” Lucy smiled at the potential of Cassie and Josh actually dating. “Of course I don't mind. What time will we be picking him up?” “We will pick him up at six and he gave me his address.” “ok, that is good to know. I will be ready at half past five.” The customer's food was ready so Lucy grabbed it and brought it over to the table. I wonder what the hurry was to get away from me. Maybe I offended Lucy by inviting Josh along. I probably should've asked her first before I jumped on the idea of bringing him along. Well there is no use standing her thinking of the past when it can't be changed. I better just hope for the best and by this evening hope that they all have fun. ~Lucy~ Why didn't Cassie ask me before asking Josh if he would like to come to dinner with us. It was supposed to be just a girls night. Oh well it happened and there is no use changing what already happened. I’ll just have to get over it and move along in life. It's not like I'll have many more girls' nights in the future anyways. Lucy walked over to a table with a young couple sitting at it. “What would you like to drink?” she asked as she got her notebook and pen out of her pocket. The young woman smiled. “Can I have a glass of lemonade please?” “Of course, and for you?” she motioned to the husband. “I would like the same.” “Ok I will be right back with your drinks.” She stuck the pen in her pocket and walked over to the drink machine. She grabbed two glass cups and filled each one with lemonade. The lemonade smelled so tempting as she caught a whiff of it in her nose. She stuck a lemon on the rim of the cup and walked back to the young couples table walking carefully so she did not spill the two drinks. “Here you go. Are you ready to order?” After she finished writing down their order she walked over to the drink machine to get herself her own glass of lemonade. She led the cup up to her mouth and took a long refreshing drink. The sweet tangy lemonade filled her mouth.

Chapter 1 ~Cassie~ Cassie pulled her car up Lucy’s driveway. She saw Lucy sitting on her doorstep petting a little calico cat. I wouldn't be surprised if I heard that cat purring from all the way inside the vehicle. Cassie watched as Lucy made her way over to the vehicle, leaving the little calico behind on the doorstep. “I was wondering when you would get here.” Lucy said. She buckled up her seat belt just as Cassie pulled out of the driveway. “Where are we going to pick up Josh at” “Well Josh lives on the far side of our neighborhood. His address is 223” “Wait! He lives in that house?” Lucy practically screamed. “Yeah, what is the big deal?” “That house is literally a mansion!” “It is?” Great, the person I like is a millionaire. At least he doesn't go around bragging about it like most. “Yeah, you gotta see it. It is so pretty.” Cassie laughed. “I’m sure i’ll see it soon because we are about there.” Cassie couldn't help but wonder why he never mentioned that before. She definitely couldn't wait to see his house. Maybe they could go for a tour of it after we eat. “Cassie, did you hear me?” “No sorry, what did you say again?” “I asked if we could go and get ice cream after supper.” “Oh that sounds good, but we'll need to see how full we are when we are done eating before thinking about dessert.” “Ok, sounds good.” Cassie pulled up to house 223. “Wow it is everything you said it would be” “Would you like to go knock on the door?” “Yeah, are you coming with me?” “Nah, I think I'll wait in the car.” Cassie smiled. “Ok see you in a bit.” Cassie walked up to the door and knocked. She couldn't help but admire the beautiful oak door that must have cost a fortune. The door opened and Cassie saw an old lady at the door. I wonder if he wrote his address wrong on the slip of paper he gave her. After all, he did just move here. Suddenly the old lady spoke. “Is your name Cassie?” “Yes, is this where Josh Nook lives?” “Yes, my name is Alice Nook and Josh is my grandson. His mom was never married and her boyfriend took off soon after he was born so now Josh and his mother live with me.” “Oh I am sorry. Is Josh ready to go?” “Yes he will be down soon. Come On inside out of the heat while you wait.” Alice said as she opened the door so Cassie could get in. “Ok thank you.” She walked inside and couldn't help but admire the beautiful house. Wow, this place is beautiful. I wish my family could afford such a beautiful place. Cassie heard footsteps on the steps causing her to snap out of her thoughts. She looked over and saw Josh wearing a tuxedo and shiny black shoes. Cassie couldn't help thinking how cute he looked in a Tux. “Hello Cassie, you look beautiful this evening.” He said smiling at her as he walked over to where she stood. Cassie could feel her face and ears turning red. “Thank you.” She said smiling. “You do too. Should we get going because our reservation is at six thirty.” “Ok let's get going. Cassie saw his hand reach for hers but at the last minute he pulled it back. They walked out to the car. “Do you mind riding in the back?” she asked hoping he wouldn't get mad. “Not at all.” He opened the back door and got in. After he buckled the seat belt he looked at Lucy. “Hello Lucy, how are you doing this evening?” “I’m doing good. Thanks for asking.” Cassie couldn't help but feel the satisfaction that Josh hadn’t commented on how Lucy looked the way he did to her. Cassie started driving to Lucy’s favorite diner. She looked back in the rearview mirror and saw Josh looking at her through the mirror as well. When they made eye contact her face started turning red again. Why can't my face stay a normal color ever. Cassie made a right and flound a parking spot at the diner. “I hope you don't mind eating here.” she told Josh. “Are you kidding? I love this place!” Relief coursed through her blood. She made the right decision coming here. They walked through the door just in time for their reservation. They walked over to the table and sat down. Josh chose to sit next to Cassie leaving Lucy with a whole booth for herself. The waitress came over to take their orders. “I can't wait to try some of this delicious food.” Lucy said, rubbing her belly. It wasn't long before their delicious food came out. Cassie and Josh both ordered Steak and Lucy ordered chicken legs. “I don't think I can eat another bite.” Cassie said motioning to her full stomach. “I think I might go to the bathroom to wash this sticky steak sauce off my hands. I'll be right back. ~Lucy~ Lucy nodded to Cassie as she walked towards the bathroom. Lucy heard her name being called. She turned her head to where she heard the sound. Her heart felt like it had stopped as she realized it was Hayden who called her name. She watched as he made his way over to her table. “Hey Babe who is this?” he said as he motioned to Josh. “Are you two on a date? Are you cheating on me?” He said not even giving her a chance to answer. Lucy felt as if she was going to die. She saw Josh looking at her with a curious expression on his face. “No this is Cassie’s date Josh. Josh, this is my boyfriend Hayden.” “Nice to meet you Hayden,” Josh held out his hand so Brayden could shake it but he never did. As if things weren't bad already Cassie came out of the bathroom. “Lucy, who is this?” Cassie said, nodding towards Hayden. “This is my boyfriend Hayden.” Lucy felt as if she was going to cry. “Why didn't you ever tell me you had a boyfriend?” Lucy could feel the anger rising from her. “I didn't tell you because I thought you would get jealous.” “Lucy you should have known I wouldn't get jealous of you.” Cassie said, trying not to sound as mad as she felt. “I know I didn't think this through.” Lucy was surprised when Hayden grabbed her hand. “Do you want to go Lucy?” He asked as he pulled her out of the booth. I wish he would just leave me alone so I can deal with my own problems without him making them worse. Without waiting for an answer he wrapped his arm around her shoulder and practically pulled her out of the restaurant. Lucy was terrified she didn't want to leave her friends but she had no choice. The way he was acting made her wonder if he really loved her. In his car she could see a bad sitting on the dash with what looked like a wet paper towel. I wonder what he is using that for. He forced her into the car, shoving her into the seat. He buckled her seat belt and grabbed the plastic bag. He took the paper towel out and held it to her nose. Lucy smelled the faint smell of Ammonia and then everything went black. ~Cassie~ “The least she could do would be to pay for her meal.” Cassie said near tears. “I can't believe she didn't tell me about this boyfriend of hers. I would never be jealous of my best friend.” Cassie frowned. “I wonder where Hayden took her in such a hurry.” “Cassie, I am really sorry. If you would like me to pay for dinner I will.” “No its fi-” “Nonsense, I'll pay.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet. He reached for the receipt and studied it. He carefully took out fifty dollars and laid it on the table. “A ten percent tip would be five dollars.” He dug into his wallet again and pulled out a five. “Cassie, would you like to go for ice cream?” “I would love to, except I lost my appetite.” “Oh ok I completely understand. Wanna go to my house instead? You can meet my mother and I can give you a tour of my house.” “Sure, I would love to meet your mother.” Josh handed the waitress the bill. “That's great! You'll love her.” “I'm sure I will. She sounds like an amazing person.” Josh laughed. “She is.”
